Time/date stamping for surveillance video
Your client, the adjuster and the attorney all expect a visible date and time on every clip. Phones, GoPros and most newer cameras don’t put one there. Video Stamp adds an accurate, running date and time to a copy of each video, read from the file itself, without uploading anything.
The problem with surveillance video and timestamps
Most investigators now shoot surveillance on a phone, a GoPro or a compact camcorder. The footage is excellent, but there is usually no date and time on the picture. Adding one by hand in a video editor is slow, and it is easy to get wrong:
- Phones store the recording time in UTC, so a naive overlay can be four or five hours off.
- Daylight-saving changes can leave part of a clip an hour off.
- Clips that run past midnight need the date to roll over at the right frame.
- Copying or trimming a file can reset its date, so the time has to come from inside the video, not the file’s “date modified”.
A wrong timestamp invites questions about the whole report. Video Stamp handles each of these automatically.
From surveillance clip to stamped copy
1. Add the day’s clips
Drag in single files or a whole folder: phone, GoPro, DJI, camcorder (MTS), dashcam and DVR/NVR exports (.dav, .264).
2. Check the start time
Video Stamp reads the recording start time from each file and shows where it came from. Enter it yourself if a file has none.
3. Stamp the copies
Each video gets a running date and time in the format you choose, written to a new file. The original is never changed.

Questions investigators ask
Will the stamp show the time the video was actually recorded?
Yes, when the file carries it. Video Stamp reads the recording start time stored in the file itself (phones, GoPro, DJI, camcorders, dashcams and many DVR/NVR exports), converts it to the right local time, and counts forward frame by frame. When a file has no usable time, you enter the start time yourself.
Does Video Stamp change my original surveillance video?
No. It always writes a new copy and never overwrites a file. The optional report records the SHA-256 fingerprint of the original before and after, so you can show it was not altered.
Is my case video uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs on your Windows PC and works with no internet connection. Nothing is sent to us or anyone else.
Can I stamp a whole day of surveillance clips at once?
Yes. Add a folder or a batch of files and Video Stamp stamps them one after another, each with its own start time.
What does it cost for an agency?
$79 per PC, or $299 for a 5-PC office pack, one-time, with a year of updates. The free trial is the full app with a TRIAL watermark on the output.
Video Stamp records how each stamp was produced. Whether a video is accepted as evidence is decided by the court or the parties, not by any software.
