Who we are
Michael Simpson, doing business as 914 Studio Group (“we”, “us”), is a software studio. Contact: msimpson@914studiogroup.com.
The Video Stamp app
- Your videos stay on your computer. Video Stamp processes videos entirely on your PC. It does not upload, transmit or share your videos, their metadata, stamped copies with us or with anyone else.
- No telemetry or analytics. The app does not collect usage statistics or crash reports. The one exception is the Chromebook compatibility check described below.
- Update check (optional). Apart from license activation and the Chromebook compatibility check (both below), the only network connection the app makes is to check for and download updates from our download server. That request reveals your IP address and a generic app identifier to the server, as any web request does. It contains no information about you or your files. You can turn the automatic check off; the Video Stamp FAQ shows how.
- Chromebook / Linux compatibility check (early access). While the Chromebook version is in early access, it checks once per version that it works on your computer (a check that failed or could not be sent is tried again, at most three times): it stamps a built-in 10-second test clip (never your videos) and sends us the result. That is whether it worked and how fast; the app version; the processor type, number of cores and memory; the Linux and ChromeOS version; the display type; whether a license is entered; and any error message, with folder, user and computer names removed, plus similar technical details (such as the processor model and the encoder used). It sends no file names, videos, user or computer names, or license details. Our server also records the IP address and the time of each check, and deletes each check after six months. Before stamping anything, the app asks our server, sending only the processor type, whether the check is still needed. Once a Chromebook of that type (Intel/AMD or ARM) has confirmed that Video Stamp works, the answer is no and the check is switched off for good on your computer. It does not run when the automatic update check is off. To turn it off on its own, run
touch ~/.local/share/VideoStamp/no_compat_checkin the Linux terminal. The Windows app never runs this check. - License activation. So that each license is used only on the number of PCs it was bought for, the app activates the license with our server when you enter it, re-checks about once a week while the PC is online, and tells the server when you click Remove License. Each check sends the license (which contains the licensee name and email it was issued to) and its signature, a one-way code made from the PC's Windows machine ID and the license number (it cannot be turned back into the machine ID and is different for every license), the PC's name and the app version. Our server also records the IP address and the time of each check. We use this only to count and manage your license's seats and to stop refunded or misused licenses. A seat that hasn't checked in for 120 days is released automatically, and the activation log is rotated. It contains nothing about your videos or files.
Purchases
Online payments are processed by Stripe, which collects and processes your payment details under Stripe's privacy policy. We never see or store your full card details. Stripe shares with us the information we need to deliver and support your license: your name, email address, billing country and order details.
We use this information only to deliver your license, send receipts and important product notices, provide support and keep business and tax records. We do not sell or rent it, and we don't send marketing emails unless you ask to receive them.
This website
- No cookies, no analytics, no advertising or tracking scripts, and no third-party fonts.
- Our web host keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, pages requested, date and time, and browser type) for security and troubleshooting. We also use them to count visits and downloads in total (for example, how many people visited a page this week); we don’t use them to build a profile of anyone, and we don’t share them.
- When you click a Buy button, you go to Stripe's secure checkout page, and Stripe's privacy policy applies there.
- Some of our announcements use links with a short campaign code, such as
?ref=li. If you arrive through one, that code is passed along to the checkout page so we can tell which announcement led to an order. It is not stored on your device and does not identify you.
If you email us, we keep the conversation to answer you and to support your purchase. Please don't send us evidence or confidential footage.
Retention
We keep order and license records for as long as needed to support your license and meet legal and tax requirements. You can ask us to delete support emails at any time.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing msimpson@914studiogroup.com. For payment data, you can also contact Stripe directly. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law.
Children
Our products are business tools and are not directed to children under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above. Significant changes will be noted on this page.
